Keith Curle on a man of the match performance from Jamie Proctor
Striker Jamie Proctor picked up the man-of-the-match award in the home game against Luton despite concerns over a stomach problem which had ruled him out of the starting eleven at the weekend. The Bolton loanee has scored twice in his eight appearances for the club so far and is fast becoming a favourite with the fans with his all-action performances.
Speaking after the game on Tuesday night, United boss Keith Curle said: “We got him through his 90 minutes with a little bit of loving. He’s a professional who has bought in to what we’re trying to do.
“He had to go back to Bolton to get some treatment and some reassurances about what the problem was. He’s had hernia operations in the past so he naturally had concerns about that.
“Getting looked at by his parent club has been a mental release for him and how he’s got through 90 minutes I just don’t know. We’ll nurse him now and do what we can so we get to utilise his skills again on Saturday.”
“It shows the character of the lad that he’s put all of that to one side to give us a man of the match performance,” he continued. "He could have gone home and told us he was concentrating on getting ready and right for next season.
“His attitude has shown us that he’s on board with what we’re trying to do here. It’s a situation we’ll have to monitor on a daily basis but he’s in the hands of our medical staff who will look after him in the right way.”
On the injury situation at the club, he said: “It’s a challenge for us to face. The pleasing thing is that we may have one or two players back for the weekend, but that will depend on whether or not they have any reaction to training this week.
“They all want to be involved but what we won’t want to do is rush any of them back for the sake of it. They have to be right because they’re going to be needed towards the end of the season.”
