Group stage
Tight first game (Crewe, won 3-0), after three hours on the coach, we found it difficult to get going. As the team got used to the surface and new rules, we started to impose ourselves.
Second game (Blackpool, won 2-1), we dominated it throughout, lots of attempts, however they scored first. Their goalkeeper kept us at bay but we managed to score two goals and get three points. We also beat Accrington (3-0) and Doncaster Rovers (5-1).
Semi-final
Our best performance of the day (Notts County, won 4-0). Fluency of passing, great team work, excellent goalkeeper, accuracy taking chances, extraordinary defence and good distribution from the back.
Final
As with every final (Morecambe, won 1-0) both teams were a bit nervous which led to a tight game, where defences dominated. Cavan Dand made the difference by scoring a great goal. Once again we showed great respect and sportsmanship.
Some interesting facts:
+ It is the fifth tournament we have won this season.
+ We have still great challenges and goals to go for: for instance representing Cumbria in the North Regional Finals 7-a-side in Sunderland, April 2017.
+ A special mention about the way we play; passing football style where no one is bigger than the team. As well as a mention of two back up players Ethan Scott and Jack Laidlaw who are actively helping to achieve these goals.
+ Fantastic support from the parents who took time off work and the schedule to travel with us as well as Carlisle United as they sent a staff member down with us. Also manager Mr Sanchez and assistant coach Mrs Burrows from Newlaithes Junior school. A massive thank to our head teacher, Mr Cannon, for supporting and promoting sport within school.
We are going to Wembley!!!!!
Carlisle United would like to congratulate everyone involved at Newlaithes School and wish them the very best of luck.
