Former West Brom graduate signs for United
Carlisle United have today signed former-West Brom midfielder Joe Ward on a short-term deal which keeps him at the club until the end of the current season.Ward, 20, came through the ranks with the Midlands Premier League club and has had loan spells with Kidderminster Harriers and Torquay United.
He was made a free agent on his return to the Hawthorns in January and immediately teamed up with the Cumbrians, where he impressed in a reserve fixture against Burnley.
Joint assistant manager Lee Dykes said: "Joe has got good pedigree having been at West Brom. He’s a central midfield player and he’s a cracking lad with a good attitude.
"He left West Brom of his own accord after being given an indication about where they felt he was in his development. He went out on loan to Kidderminster and Torquay United where he got some valuable game time at a level which really tests you in different ways.
"He’s played a lot of U23 development games during the last year and he’s a development project. He’s a young player who knows the defensive midfield role but can also do the other side of it.
"We’re excited to see what Joe can offer us. He’s coming into the football club at a time where we’ve got injuries and suspensions in that department. I’ve spoken to Joe and I’ve told him it’s up to him to show the manager what he can do."
Ward will wear shirt number 2.
