Rampant Blues earn comfortable victory
United started as they meant to go on in their Tuesday afternoon home game against Morecambe when they opened the scoring with just seven minutes on the clock courtesy of a fantastic volley from Luke Lloyd as he latched on to a clever pass from Max Cowburn. It became almost exclusively one way traffic after that and the Cumbrians were unlucky not to be awarded a penalty when Lloyd was felled inside the area as he tried to get past his man.
The Shrimps looked for a response with a shot from the edge of the area but Bacon grabbed it and was up quickly to spark a counter-attack. Cowburn showed for it for a cut back from Egan as the Cumbrians raced forward but the keeper went full length to beat it away.
Carlisle deservedly doubled their lead when advantage was played as Lloyd was chopped to the floor inside the centre circle. Blue shirts converged and Jaic Miller said thank you very much as he was given space to round off the move with a nice finish.
More enterprising home play left Adewusi in space as Egan and Holt worked their way down the left flank, but the midfielder was stopped in his tracks as his shot was blocked by a sliding tackle and the stopper’s hand.
Pressure from the hosts was made to count moments later when a ball into the box fell nicely for Egan. His firm volley was saved but Adewusi took over to slot the loose ball into the bottom corner.
A surge from Jordan Holt saw him carry the ball from the edge of his own box into the opposition penalty area, assisted by Lloyd, but the keeper did well once again to get enough on it to keep it out.
Morecambe should have pulled one back just before the break when they worked the ball to get behind the back line. A low shot appeared to be going in until it bobbled just past the upright.
The sides scrapped for territory for long periods after the break but Carlisle grabbed their fourth goal of the day when the lively Jack Egan ghosted through two challenges. He fed it on as Jaic Miller made a move and he doubled his tally for the day with some neat footwork and an excellent finish.
A long range effort from Max Cowburn rattled the woodwork as he left the stunned keeper rooted to the spot, and Bacon had to save at full stretch from a similar effort at the other end as the game opened up.
But the scoring wasn’t done there and substitute Kieran Hall wrapped the victory up for the young Blues in time added on when he skilfully manoeuvred a through ball from Egan out from under his feet. He used strength to hold the defender at bay before squeezing a curled shot underneath the frustrated keeper.
