Academy teams do the club proud in Manchester
The under-13 team spent their Easter weekend at a two-day tournament in Manchester. The side cruised through their group stage without conceding a goal against teams which included the likes of Grimsby Town, Birmingham and St George’s FC.
The team then spent Saturday evening in Bolton where they represented the club in a very professional manner whilst eating out in the hotel and bowling later in the evening.
In the semi-final on Sunday, they came across an under-14 team from America. Despite the opposition being at least one year older than our team, we took the lead. Unfortunately we conceded two goals in the last 10 minutes with the side being knocked out of the competition at the semi-final stage.
This will have been an invaluable weekend for the boys as they look to take the next step in their progression. Developing independence, responsibility and professional habits were all areas which will have benefited off the field over the course of the weekend, whilst playing competitive football on the field.
Also attending the tournament, held at Platt Lane, Manchester, were the under-8, under-9 and under-10 teams.
These were one-day tournaments where they played between six to eight competitive fixtures against sides they have never played before.
It is pleasing to report that all three of the sides finished in the top three for their age groups.
+ The under 8’s lost 2-1 in their final.
+ The under 9’s finished third in their competition.
+ The under 10’s lost on penalties in their final.
Coach Steven Rudd said: “Overall it was a fantastic weekend for everyone involved. The players represented the club fantastically well and have come away from the tournament having developed as young footballers.
“On behalf of the club we would like to thank parents / guardians and family members for supporting the teams at the tournament as we look to have a strong end to the season.”
