Result from the Saturday afternoon youth game
The good run continues for the hard working young Blues as they came away with an excellent victory from Wigan on Saturday afternoon. It all appeared to be going the way of the home side until a stunning Max Cowburn free kick flew into the top corner from 30-yards, giving the visitors the upper hand.
A free-flowing counter attack doubled the away lead when Cameron Salkeld finished off a six touch move, and things got even better when Cowburn latched onto a poor kick out from the Latics keeper on the half way line. He took a touch then executed a wonderful 40-yard lob which took the stranded stopper completely out of the game.
It got nervy for the Blues when the hosts hit back with two late goals, but they stood strong and fully deserved to extend their unbeaten run.
"It should have been more comfortable than it was, but I don't think I can complain too much," youth boss Darren Edmondson said. "We had some good chances to add to the tally but the goals we scored were absolutely fantastic.
"We finished with five 16-year-olds in the side yet again and the players gave their all on what was a very hot day. We are extremely pleased with what we've seen."
