Disabled Supporters Group to be formed
Carlisle United Supporters’ Groups [CUSG] are seeking to create a Disabled Supporters Group [DSG] which we hope will be representative of as many of the disability and mixed ability groups already in operation in Cumbria and the wider area as possible. The DSG will seek to raise concerns on behalf of disabled fans at the regular CUSG meetings which are held at the club with key club stakeholders in attendance.
CUSG chairman Simon Clarkson said: “We have a very proactive member of CUSG, Barry Carter, who is keen to form a Disabled Supporters Group which will work on behalf of the fans and the club.
“We’re very lucky to have someone with his experience and knowledge on board and we’re hoping that this will meet with a very positive response. CUSG are already working with the club on projects to improve the disabled facilities, but we want to be truly representative of the whole fan base as much as we possibly can.
“We see the formation of a structured Disabled Supporters Group as central to that. We in no way want to take over the operation of any of the fantastic groups already out there, but it would be good if we could arrange regular meetings so that a much stronger message, along with suggestions, can be passed on to the club.”
Barry Carter said: “It would be fantastic if we were able to get Carlisle United fans from all of the disabled groups in the area linked up with CUSG. The club is keen to improve the match day experience for everybody and this is a chance for us to raise our concerns and issues.
“Please do get in touch and we can start to form what we hope will be an effective group which will make a difference at Brunton Park.”
