Keith Curle on exepcted interest as results continue to improve
Striker Charlie Wyke bagged his ninth goal of the season against Grimsby Town on Tuesday night and manager Keith Curle was quick to heap praise on the striker as the squad tally for the campaign edged up to 51.“Charlie could easily score goals two divisions above where we are at the moment,” he said. “His understanding of the game is improving and he’s the best we’ve got at sitting as a deep-lying centre forward.
“He has a physical presence and a work ethic which makes him able to do that graveyard shift of tracking back to midfield very well. That’s immediately followed by making forward runs and that’s why he gets rewards.”
“People may not notice a lot of the work he does for us, but I do,” he commented. “I’d be surprised if somebody doesn’t come in and test our arm for him, as early as January. He’s got everything you would want from a centre forward. He’s mobile, brave and strong and he has good technique.
“It goes without saying we want to keep this team together but, and as we always remind people, we’re a business. We’re an organisation that needs funding, but we aren’t actively looking to sell any of our players.
“The fact is we have good players here and we know they will attract attention. We won’t hide away from that because if people do want to come in they need to understand we have good valuations for all of them.
“The other thing we don’t do is stand in the way of players when it comes to furthering careers, because it’s very important that they get rewards for their performances. However, it would have to be right for any of them because we think we’re building something here which is attractive to the players in the first place.”
