Curle, Grainger, Gillespie and Penn at the fun day
The Carlisle United Football Club and University of Cumbria Community Fun Day was a huge success today as thousands of people descended on Brunton Park to take part in a wide range of activities – from training with the first team to bouncing around on inflatable obstacle courses and strapping themselves them in for jaw-dropping fairground rides.United manager Keith Curle said: “One of the best ways to get closer to the community is by taking part in things like this. This has been a fantastic day where a lot of our younger fans have been able to get up close and personal with their heroes. That will live with them forever.
“A day like today tells us that there is a feeling of unity starting to grow, and we need that if we want to be successful, both on and off the pitch. The players have really enjoyed themselves and I’m sure that everyone who came along will feel the same.”
Finance Director Suzanne Kidd said: “It’s been a brilliant day for everyone. The University of Cumbria and Carol Milnes have been fantastic in the way they helped us to organise it and everything has gone really smoothly – even with the weather!
“We have so many people to thank, from those who helped with the set-up to those who manned the activities and stalls, but our biggest thank you goes to those people, young and old, who came along and helped to make it another very special event.”
