FRIENDLY: United 2 - 3 Queen of the South

Grainger and Lambe bag the United goals

United battled out a competitive first friendly of the season against Queen of the South today and the visitors grabbed the win after the hosts had mounted a second half fight back.

The Queens went into the break two goals to the good – one bagged on the stroke of half time by former-Blue Steven Rigg – but a crisp volley from Reggie Lambe and a peach of a free kick from Danny Grainger brought things back to level terms with just over half an hour left to play.

A late winner sealed it for the away side but there were plenty of positives to take from the lively run-out.

United first half: Gillespie, Miller, Atkinson, Ellis, Brough, McKee, Penn, Devitt, Kennedy, Miller, Wyke (Salkeld).

United second half: Gillespie (Trialist), Trialist, Raynes, Ellis (Groves), Grainger, Lambe (Brown), Jones, Joyce, Adams, Ibehre, Trialist (Trialist).

Goals: Lambe (49), Grainger (57)
