Update from the Tuesday afternoon reserve game
United popped down the road to face Barrow in a Tuesday afternoon bounce game and a tight game burst into life on 15 minutes when the hosts created space on the edge of the box. A firm strike left Hanford with no chance despite a good attempt at a block.Carlisle settled into their stride and a good run from McQueen took him past his man on the right flank. A low cross found Hope but he scuffed his volley as he arrived late and it bent harmlessly wide.
Two touches from Balanta gave him time to weigh up his options and he spotted Hope on the edge of the area. The front man unleashed a stinging drive but he couldn't quite find the target.
United brought it back to level pegging on 27 minutes when Miller overlapped to good effect. He strode past his man and a drilled delivery had the defence in a panic. Angelo Balanta steadied himself and curled an unstoppable shot into the bottom corner as it arrived at his feet.
Hope had the first chance of the second half when he dropped a shoulder and made a gap 19-yards from goal. The keeper was beaten but his thundering drive shaved the outside of the post.
Things remained tight but Barrow went close to regaining the lead when an awkward bounce led to a goalmouth scramble. Bacon parried low from the first strike but he needed help from the inside of the post as the rebound spun up into the air.
The last action of the day was a stunning shot on the spin from Balanta but he was denied his second of the day by a quality fingertip save.
