Centre back commits to United
Carlisle United have today signed defender Mark Ellis on a permanent deal which keeps him at Brunton Park until the summer of 2018.
Ellis, 27, initially joined United at the end of October on a one-month loan deal and extended that for a further month following a successful six-game spell. He has now made ten appearances and has become a popular member of the squad.
Manager Keith Curle said: “Mark has settled well here and he's shown us what he’s all about. He’s getting better and better with every game and we’re delighted that he’ll be with us until the end of the 2017/18 season.
“He gives us good options at the back and he’s bought in to what we want to do and how we want to do it. He's said himself that he thinks there's even more to come and he's the type of character we want to have around.”
Ellis started his career with a three-month loan deal at Torquay, from parent club Bolton, which turned into a permanent move in the summer of 2008.
Over 100 appearances and four years followed with the Gulls, which included a short loan spell with Forest Green Rovers in 2009.
He made the move to Crewe in 2012 and became a regular with the Alex through his two-year stay. He then signed for the Shrews in May 2014 where he helped them back to promotion to League One at the first attempt.
