Walking Football team make donation to Jigsaw Hospice
Our Carlisle United Community Sports Trust Walking Football team recently put their heads together to find a slightly different way of helping their favourite charity - Jigsaw Hospice. As well as holding a collection to raise a cash donation of £100, the team also got together to come up with some special raffle prizes, which included a Christmas Cake and a wonderful selection of boxed Corgi toys.
CST manager John Halpin said: "One of our players [John Summers] won the cake in a raffle and he felt it would be an excellent idea to give it Jigsaw for them to use as a prize for their own fundraising needs.
"The lads decided the cake was good, but it wasn't enough, so they collected a further £100 and also that unbelievable collection of Corgi Toys. These have also been given to Jigsaw and it was lovely for the lads to be able to meet the staff from the Hospice to hand it all over."
Walking Football has grown massively over the last few years and, as the name suggests, it is non-contact and anyone that sprints, runs or jogs while the ball is in play will be penalised with a free-kick awarded to the other team.
We at Carlisle United Community Trust have players from all walks of life who take part in our weekly sessions. The benefits are seen not only in general fitness and well-being, but socially as well.
Sessions take place in the Neil Centre on Tuesdays from 2pm - 3pm. Please contact John Halpin on 01228 554 169 for more information.
