Monday evening pre-season friendly at Penrith
United bagged all three of their goals before half time on Monday night as they ended their pre-season campaign with a victory courtesy of strikes from Charlie Wyke, Max Brown and Harrison Panayiotou.
Carlisle started the night in confident mood and a break from deep from Wyke left the home side stretched as the mobile forward burst over the half way line. An exchange of passes with Brown took him into the area and he steadied himself well before he clipped a powerful shot into the bottom corner.
The visitors kept the pressure on and an error at the back left second year scholar Max Brown with a clear sight of goal. He shifted it into space and he left the keeper with no chance as he drilled a thunderbolt into the back of the net.
Martyn Coleman wasn’t too far away for the hosts when a snapshot on the run whistled over the bar but Carlisle continued to look the more likely as they attacked at pace. Jamieson did well to get low and block a stinger from McKee as the midfielder set himself to celebrate when he found the target with a shot from distance.
The Carlisle lead was extended just before the break when Brown spotted trialist Harry Panayiotou in space with his back to goal. The weight of the pass invited the nippy striker to spin and he caught the stopper on the hop with a dinked effort which went through legs and over the line.
The highlight of a hard working second half came for Max Crocombe - who joined United between the sticks on trial at Bradford on Saturday - when he found himself one against one with Coleman clean through. The striker thought he’d done everything right until the agile keeper pounced to make a stunning one-handed save.
