CONTRACTS: Keeper joins United ahead of season kick off

Keeper Max Crocombe signs for the Blues

Carlisle United have today signed keeper Max Crocombe on a one-year deal which keeps him at Brunton Park until the summer of 2017.

Auckland-born Crocombe, 22, moved to England at a young age and has represented his country at all levels up to U23, and received his first call up to the full international squad in March 2015.

He started as a youngster with Buckingham Town before being spotted by Oxford United. He signed scholarship forms with the U’s and signed his first professional deal with the club in 2012.

He had loan spells with Nuneaton, Barnet and Southport and left Oxford by mutual agreement to join United this week.

Manager Keith Curle said: “As I said earlier this week, Max has attributes we like.

"He has good physical stature and he keeps himself in good shape. He has trained exceptionally well and Simon [Tracey] has had very good things to say about him.

"He knows he has things to work on but he's ready to challenge and to stake a claim. He has shown us a real hunger and desire to progress and I like that.

"He's not just here to go through the motions. He wants to take the next step and that should keep both of our keepers on their toes as we go forward from here."

Crocombe will wear squad number 22.
