Keith Curle on finding out about the squad and potential loans
Manager Keith Curle spoke to us about the potential for loan activity now that the summer transfer window has well and truly shut.
“I’m still in the process of finding out exactly what I can get out of these players,” he explained. “I think there’s still more to come, particularly from our wide players.
“It was a good experiment to use Alexander McQueen out on the left on Tuesday, to see if he could handle that, because it wasn’t something we’d had an opportunity to explore. It’s only right that I extend this squad fully to see what I have in there.”
“We’ve got a collective here where the changing room has developed a team mentality,” he continued. “The players have got their own identity within the team framework and they all understand what they need to do within the team shape.
“We’re a little bit short centre forward wise but we do have a few targets lined up, if we need it. We’re confident that the work Dolly will do with Charlie Wyke will mean he’ll come back ready to go again.
“We used Steven Rigg in the lone striker role at Port Vale. That’s all part of his learning curve and individual development. I thought he did very well. Kevin Osei is back on field-based based training so he will have a say as well.”
And on getting pitch time for Dean Leacock, he said: “A game has been pencilled in for Middlesbrough away but they can only play us on the Wednesday next week.
“Ideally we would want that to be on Tuesday, so we might have to change the opposition. Whatever happens, we will get a game of some description next week so that more players can get minutes under their belt.”
