Newcastle striker Alex Gilliead on his England call-up
We spoke to Newcastle United loanee Alex Gilliead about his England call-up ahead of the Stevenage game on Saturday."It's fantastic to be going away with England," he told us. "I was away with them last month but this time we're going to Germany. We'll play Germany, Turkey and Holland so I'm looking forward to it.
"Travelling and playing against different countries in different places broadens your experience, but competitive games with your club are equally as important. I'm really enjoying playing men's football and I just want to keep both sides of it going."
"I was pleased when I heard the manager wanted me to stay for the whole loan spell, even though it was only one extra game," he admitted. "It makes you feel wanted. I'm really happy here and I want to stay with Carlisle United when I come back from England duty.
"Hopefully it will be sorted once I get back. Macaulay [Gillesphey] and I have both settled really well and I don't think we could have asked for anything more from our time here.
"The fans and club staff have all taken to us and we're both happy here. As I say, when I get back from the England trip I just want to come back to Carlisle United and hopefully carry on doing well."
"Things like this are out of my hands but I've spoken to the manager [Keith Curle] and my agent about it," he told us. "It's just a case of waiting to see what the clubs say now really."
