Alex McQueen on player appearances and getting back to winning ways
We spoke to Alexander McQueen about the importance of community visits and getting back to winning ways as he went along to meet the Year 6 students at Inglewood Junior School."I did a couple of appearances at Tottenham but the children here were great," he told us. "Everyone is really friendly here. They asked some good questions about what I was like when I was growing up and what I aspired to be.
"They didn't ask the usual questions. It was more about what I was like as a person which is always nice. It interesting to do things like this. It's nice to see what the children are like and to see their faces when you walk in is fantastic.
"Things like this are really helping me to settle into the city. Everyone here is helping with that. When you walk around town everyone says hello and they're talking about the games, so it's always nice."
On the performances on the pitch, he said: "The Morecambe game was frustrating. We've watched the game back and we've looked at what we need to do to improve. We've had a good week of training this week so hopefully we can put it right on Saturday.
"Sometimes we do so well and I think we forget that we need to keep working hard. That's when the manager gives us that kick to get us back to our best."
"I'm definitely getting more used to League Two football now," he said. "I'm adjusting to the different types of things you can do in a game so I'm starting to know what to do in the right areas.
"I'm loving the role I'm playing. It allows me to attack and defend, then cross the ball and try to stop crosses, so it's something I'm really enjoying.
"The children here today have all been asking me about goals and I've been telling them my first one is coming! I keep telling people it's happening so I need to make sure it comes soon.
"I'm not really surprised about the good start to the season we've made because I could see in pre-season how good the team was. No other League Two side can really compete with the style of football we're playing so it's just a matter of doing that week in, week out and we'll be at the top."
