Matt Douglas on the Rotherham game
Youth Team captain Matt Douglas spoke to us after the Blues beat Rotherham 2-0 in the third round of the Youth Alliance Cup.“That result is very pleasing,” he said, “It’s great to get into the next round of the cup and hopefully we can keep this good run going.
“All the lads deserve credit for the performance. It was a great team effort and we got the result we deserved.”
Centre back Douglas was also impressed with his teammate’s defensive display in a closely fought game: “We’ve had three clean sheets on the bounce now and that’s great for us.
“At the start of the season we were conceding quite a few goals, but we’re becoming a lot more solid at the back now.”
And the Youth Alliance Cup is a competition Douglas admits he wants to do well in: “Hopefully now we can get through the next few rounds of the Youth Alliance Cup. It’s one of a couple of competitions we really want to do well in.”
The Young Blues are next in action on Wednesday when they face Tranmere, and Douglas says they couldn’t be in better form ahead of the tie: “It’s great to go into the FA Youth Cup tie on Wednesday on the back of four wins.
“Hopefully we can get the win against Tranmere and progress into the next round of that competition as well. The FA Youth Cup is a huge competition for us.
“As one of the smaller teams we want to get into the Third Round and play a bigger team. There’s the chance to play at the likes of Anfield and Old Trafford and that would be unbelievable for us.”
United have been drawn to play Preston away in the northern area semi-final of this season's Youth Alliance Cup competition. Match details to follow.
