Defender Courtney Meppen-Walter moves on from the club
Defender Courtney Meppen-Walter has today left United by mutual consent to pursue other options.
Former-Manchester City youth prospect Meppen-Walter, 21, signed a two and a half year deal with United in December 2013 and scored twice in his 42 appearances.
Manager Keith Curle said: “This is an opportunity for him to get out there and further his career. He's not playing games here and he knows that it's a situation which isn't going to change quickly for him.
"I completely understand some people will disagree with this simply because of the ability he has. We've all seen what he can produce and I don't have any problem with the ability levels he has in him at all.
"He hasn't been able to develop his game in line with the way we want to play at this moment in time and he's found himself to be down the pecking order for a while now.
"He's at an age where he needs to be playing football. He has an opportunity now where he has no ties or strings attached, and he can go out and offer himself to those clubs he feels he wants to target, so that he can get to play the amount of football he wants to be playing."
"I have to say that he hasn't been an ounce of trouble," he concluded. "He's one of those lads where you find everyone thinks the world of him. There is a lot about him I like as a person but decisions have to be made with football at the forefront of your mind.
"We have a strong squad and he hasn't been able to force his way into the reckoning with me this season. That doesn't say anything bad about him at all. These things happen in football and I now hope to see him move on and find a club where his attributes are needed very quickly indeed."
Everyone at Carlisle United wishes Courtney all the very best as he moves on from the club.
