Defender Michael Raynes pens one-year contract
Manager Keith Curle completed his second summer signing within the space of 48 hours with the capture of Michael Raynes on a one-year deal which keeps the big central defender at Brunton Park until the summer of 2016.
Raynes, 27, started his career with Stockport County where he made over 150 appearances in his six-year stay.
Successful seasons with Scunthorpe and Rotherham followed, and his performances caught the eye of Oxford United where he went on to make just under 100 appearances in his three year spell at the Kassam.
He spent the second half of last season at Mansfield and he played at Brunton Park at the end of January when United beat the Stags by 2-1.
Manager Keith Curle said: "He's a big, solid central defender who knows the level and the game.
"He's a communicator and he's another I'm looking forward to working with. I could see in his eyes that he has the hunger to come here and help us be successful and, again, he's shown me he has the type of character and attitude I want to work with.
"It's the second signing of the week and it's another step closer to where we want to be. Work is ongoing, as always, but we're in a process where we want to make sure we get the right players with the right qualities. If that takes time then we're comfortable with that.
"Any moves we make have to be right for the player, the squad and for the club."
