Fixture weekends free for U8 and U9 teams in the area
Academy coach Ben Benson gave us an update on the U8 age group as the process of getting them ready for next season continues.
“We are well under way with next season’s U9 academy intake and we have been pleased with the progress made by the players,” he said. “It’s an interesting time for the U8s as they aren’t classed as being part of a full time programme until August. At this moment in time we are training one day a week and playing a game every other week.
“This group of U8 players have been training as a team since January, and part of the process is to organise a games programme for them. We were delighted to host Whitehaven Amateurs U9s on Saturday, in the Neil Centre, and all the players involved had a great day. Results at this stage are not the aim – the only thing that matters is that you see good performances.”
“This part of the U8 process (weekly training and games) is to get the players together and used to each other,” he explained. “It should mean they can hit the ground running, in terms of playing philosophy and team understanding, when they join us in September.
“We have a number of Saturdays free at the moment and we would welcome U8 or U9 teams to come along and play us to help with the programme we have set in place. We play indoors, so weather is never an issue, and we can discuss timings should that be an issue.
“If your U8 or U9 team is interested in playing against us, between now and the end of the season, please send an email to ben.benson@carlisleunited.co.uk and we will see what we can do.”
