COMMERCIAL: Sales and Marketing Director appointed

Phil King joins Carlisle United as Sales and Marketing Director

Carlisle United are pleased to announce the appointment of Phil King as the club’s Sales and Marketing Director.

King, 31, part of the Sunderland FC Foundation of Light for the last six years, will take post at Brunton Park at the end of this month as the club heads into its busy pre-season programme.

Speaking to the official website today, he said: “This is a new challenge which I am very much looking forward to. I’m delighted that I’ll be part of the team which will be helping Carlisle United to grow and develop its commercial and marketing presence within the community.

“I’ve been involved in football for well over five years now and I can honestly say there isn’t an industry like it. I enjoy being involved with it and I’m looking forward to taking this next step at Carlisle. I see this as a big opportunity for me to come in and make an impact in a very positive way.

“I’m coming into the club at the end of June and I know I’m going to have to hit the ground running. It’s one of the busiest periods in football for the operational and commercial side of the business, but that’s no bad thing.

“I’ve been looking for a while now at where the club is with season ticket sales and with its commercial partnerships, sponsorship and advertising openings. It all looks positive, as things stand, and it will be a case of gearing up and pushing on towards the first home game and then on into the season ahead.”

Commercial director Dick Young said: “We are delighted that Phil has agreed to join us as Sales and Marketing Director and we welcome him into our team.

"With his experience at Sunderland he will bring fresh ideas and energy, which he clearly displays. He is very much a team player with a great personality and I am sure he will be well received by our commercial partners and supporters alike.

"As he has said, he welcomes the new challenge and we will do everything within our power to help him settle into the club. I wish him all the very best and I look forward to working with him to enhance the supporters overall experience, whilst increasing the revenue for the benefit of our football club.”

In addition to his award-winning work with the Foundation of Light King was also involved in the business planning and sponsorship acquisition for the Beacon of Light - a £14.7m Foundation Sports and Education facility to be built adjacent to the Stadium of Light by the end of 2017.

He worked closely with partners such as Barclays, Home Group and Caterpillar whilst with the Foundation of Light, as well as a large number of local businesses.

We will have a full interview with Phil King on the official website over the weekend.
