Short term contract agreed for Joe Thompson
Carlisle United have today agreed a short term contract with midfielder Joe Thompson followed a successful trial period with the club.
Thompson, 26, teamed up with the Cumbrians at the beginning of July and was invited to stay on following an initial week with the club.
Manager Keith Curle said: “Joe has earned this opportunity because he has knuckled down and worked extremely hard.
“We still think there’s more to come from him but he’s fitted in well and he’s shown us he can bring something extra to the squad.
"We’re looking forward to working with him more as we go on from here.”
Thompson started his career at Rochdale and made his debut against United in May 2006 whilst still on youth terms with the club.
He went on to make over 150 appearances for Dale during a six year stay and moved to join Tranmere in 2012 where he made 20 appearances as he battled with a serious illness.
Spells with Rochdale, Bury, Wrexham and Southport followed, with a trial a St Johnstone preceding his move to Carlisle and his impressive stay with the Blues.
