INTERVIEW: I've started something here

Striker Derek Asamoah on his one month contract

Striker Derek Asamoah gave us his thoughts on his one-month loan extension shortly after putting pen to paper on his new deal.

“I’m very happy to have this done,” he said. “I’ve started something here and I want to continue it. I want to repay the faith the gaffer has shown in me because he's a big part of the reason I’m here at all.

“I’m enjoying my football and this extra month gives me a chance to play and show what I can do. Hopefully I’ll recapture my early form.”

“I’ve had a few bits of interest from other clubs,” he revealed. “However, I want to stay here, do well and see where that takes me. It’s a feeling of unfinished business, in a way. I did have firm offers from other teams in England, and abroad, and they were with longer contracts, but I want to help out as much as I can here.”

“I’ve been in relegation battles before so I know what it’s like and what it takes,” he told us. “My first professional contract was with Northampton, and we were relegated, and it wasn’t nice. When I was at Chester I scored seven goals in four games to keep them up, so I do have a bit of experience with it.

“I still feel I have more to show the Carlisle fans at the moment and that’s another reason why I’m still here. I want to show everyone what I have to offer. Like I say, I’ve started something here and I want to carry it on. Playing well and scoring goals is the only incentive I need and I want that be happening with Carlisle United."

“The fact that it’s a one month deal doesn’t worry me," he concluded. "It was agreed by both sides to do it that way. It suits both parties at the moment and I’m looking forward to helping more with the challenge ahead.”
