Sky Bet, the Title Sponsor of the Football League, are covering the cost of tickets and travel for the Carlisle United fans travelling to Plymouth for the Sky Bet League 2 clash this evening.79 loyal Carlisle fans are currently making the 779-mile round trip, dubbed the ‘Longest away day in the Football League’.
42 Cumbrians are on the official supporter’s club bus, which set off at 10am this morning and is not expected to return to Carlisle until 5am tomorrow.
Sales and Marketing Director Phil King said: "We took a call from the Football League and Sky Bet this morning and Sky Bet were keen to support our fans who are making the trip down to Plymouth tonight.
"To sell 79 tickets for such a long trip on a Tuesday night is phenomenal from our fans and we're pleased their loyalty to the club has been rewarded.
Sky Bet Head of Sponsorship Edwin Martin said: “As Carlisle to Plymouth is the longest trip in The Football League and given it is on a Tuesday night, we thought the loyal Carlisle fans making the trip deserved a bit of help to make their away day trip even better.
“We were delighted to be able to pay for their match ticket and coach travel and we wish them all the best for the rest of the season.”
For fans who are not on the official coach (which will be met in Plymouth by someone from Sky Bet) they will need to look out for someone wearing a Sky Bet t-shirt to pass on their details for reimbursment at a later date.
The Sky Bet guys will be waiting outside the Away Gate, and have been fully briefed.
