Keith Curle ahead of the visit of AFC Wimbledon
United boss Keith Curle spoke to us about what his side can expect to face ahead of this afternoon’s visit of AFC Wimbledon.
“They’re a big, strong, physical side with very good wing play,” he said. “They have a natural strength and focal point in Akinfenwa, and they also have the lad Elliott who is a good foil for him. He’s another big target man.
“We need to be able to deal with that, but if you’re going to go toe-to-toe in this sort of encounter then the likelihood is you’re going to have a difficult afternoon. You have to think about it if you do want to go bear wrestling because Ade is a big, strong bear.
“He retains possession of the ball well, if you allow him to get it, so you have to keep him away from your goal. You also need to try and stop his supply line and the best way to do that is to keep hold of it and play the game in their half. I think it’ll be an interesting encounter.”
On the role the fans have to play, he said: “The support we had here last Saturday was phenomenal and people are starting to enjoy what we’re doing.
“They can see we’re trying to play in a way that’s different to what we’ve done before. We want to play in a way which gets results so it’s going to take a little bit of education. What I can say is that my record shows I do get results when I go into clubs and take over.
“That’s the same here and I want our fans to come along and help us. I want them to enjoy and be part of what we’re trying to build. We’ll be going all out for the victory and we’re looking forward to having them behind us.”
