A profile of one of our linked clubs - Cleator Moor Celtics
Thank you to Cleator Moor Celtics for sending us this profile as they enter their second season as an official Academy linked club:
We at Cleator Moor Celtic Football Club have just completed our 105th season which is something we are very proud of.
We currently run sixteen youth teams, from U7 to U21, and three open age teams. This equates to approximately 200 children and 40 adults.
These facts have been recognised by the County FA and the national FA when they awarded us Chartered Standard Community Club of the year for Cumbria.
We were then awarded the Chartered Standard Community club of the year for the North West region. This covers clubs from as far away as Manchester & Liverpool.
Cleator Moor is described as an area of deprivation, with a range of social issues. As such it is even more important that we are able to offer training and the opportunity to play football to everyone who wants to come along. We believe we serve the community well.
Our junior teams have been successful in winning leagues, league cups and also county cups. The amount of kids playing who go on to play for our 2nd team, in the County League, and the 1st team in the Vaux Wearside League is testimony to the youth policy deployed at the club. Last year we had eight players represent the very successful U18 County side.
We currently have nearly twenty level 1 coaches, five level 2 coaches and two level 3 coaches. Over the years we have had Tony Caig (Carlisle United, Newcastle Utd, etc) and Scott Carson (Leeds Utd, Liverpool, Wigan and England) playing in green and white hoops.
Being linked to Carlisle United is a fantastic opportunity for us and, with the close bonds being developed, it can only help both clubs going forward. Exposing junior players to a wide range of opportunities will not only help develop them as a player, but also develop their social skills.
