Keeper Mark Gillespie on being back in training
Keeper Mark Gillespie spoke to us at the recent hospital visit about being back in training as he looks to end the year on a positive note.
“I’m buzzing to be back out on the grass,” he said. “You do all you can in the gym but this makes a huge difference. It’s good to be involved again and getting some proper work done.
“It felt really good to put the gloves on for the first time last week and I’m looking forward to getting back into full training soon.
“It’s helping to get rid of the frustration that has built up with not being involved with the first team. Even my general mood has improved because being out there is what I love doing.”
“I think it’s a day by day thing now,” he explained. “We’ll be looking to step it up more this week and things will get more intense. It’s difficult to tell exactly when I’ll be back because I’ve just come through my second setback. We have to make sure I’m completely ready before we push on even more.
“There’s always a little bit of anxiety when you start training properly. All you can do then is trust in the work you’ve done. I feel strong and my leg feels good and that’s all you can ask for.
“I just want to be back with the outfield players, playing some sort of games and we can then go on from there. You’re in the game to walk out and play on a Saturday and I can’t wait to be doing it again.”
“I’ve definitely got something to prove, as far as I’m concerned, because it’s a new manager,” he told us. “I only played the one game when he first got here and that didn’t go so well.
“I’ll have to show him what I can do, but everyone is fighting for their place all the time, from goalkeeper to striker. The most important thing at the moment is the team climbing the league, so that’s what we’re looking to do.”
