Kavanagh completes tenth pre-season signing
Carlisle United have today signed Republic of Ireland international Stephen Elliott on a one year deal which keeps him at Brunton Park until the summer of 2015.
Elliott, 30, started his career as a youngster with Belvedere FC in Dublin but was snapped up by Manchester City after scoring five goals against them within the space of an hour in a trial game.
He moved to Sunderland in 2004 where he scored 23 goals in 88 appearances during a three-season stay. He subsequently enjoyed spells with Wolves, Preston and Norwich before making a move north of the border to join Hearts on a two-year contract in 2010.
He joined Coventry City in the summer of 2012, where he scored four goals in 25 appearances, and teamed up with United for a trial period during this pre-season. He bagged two goals within the first 15 minutes of the 5-1 victory over Carlisle City on Tuesday night having trained with the club ahead of the final friendly fixture.
Elliott represented his country at all age levels and scored for the senior side when they beat Cyprus 1-0 in a World Cup qualifier in 2008. He made a total of nine appearances at full international level.
