Reece Brown on staying with United
Defender Reece Brown spoke to us shortly after he extended his loan spell at Brunton Park until the end of the current season.
“I’m really pleased that I’m staying,” he said. “I want to be part of the club staying up and it’s been good that I’ve been playing a few games. That was the reason I came here and hopefully I’ll carry on being involved.
“I’ve played quite a few games here now and it’s nice to be out there and playing again. Our first target as defenders is not to concede and we were on a good run of clean sheets before Saturday. That’s a game we have to put behind us now so that we can start to concentrate on Walsall on Friday.”
“Coming out on loan gives you more experience and that’s what I need,” he added. “I’m still relatively young and I’m still learning the game. It’s all about pitch time and I didn’t think there was any point in me going back to Watford at the moment just to sit in the stands. I always knew that if the club wanted me to stay here then I was more than happy to do it.
“I haven’t really spoken to Watford about the move because it was Kav who asked me if I wanted to stay. I wasn’t about to turn it down because there’s a bit of a feeling of finishing the job off. I was involved in a relegation battle with Oldham when I was there so I’ve been in a situation like this before. We got the job done and we stayed up.
“I definitely think it will be the same here. Everybody has just got to keep working hard and try to cut out the individual mistakes. Looking back at when I was with Oldham, it was the same then. I didn’t want relegation on my CV and all of the other players felt the same way. The thought of that makes you want to try even harder.”
Looking back at the weekend performance at Preston, he said: “There isn’t anything about it that was good. It was a derby game so it made it even more embarrassing. Like I said earlier, all we can do is forget about it, get a good week of training and concentrate on the game on Friday.
“It’s good that we’ve got these games coming up so quickly after that one. We were in on Sunday and everybody was really quiet. We’re starting to get back to normal now and I think that’s how it has to be. I don’t think any player would ever like getting beat by a scoreline like that but it’s only us who can put it right.
“We saw on Saturday that we have really good support from the fans to help us with that. Hopefully we'll pay them back with a couple of good results.”
