Beck called up for Scotland
Carlisle United Football Club are delighted to confirm that striker Mark Beck has been called up to the Scotland U21 squad for their European Championship qualifier against the Netherlands on Thursday evening (kick off 6.30pm, Nijmegen).
Beck, 19, has already tasted international football with Ricky Sbragia’s Scotland U19 outfit where he grabbed a goal and an assist in a 3-2 victory against Sweden.
That was followed by a call-up for the UEFA U19 Elite Round qualifiers against Belgium, Georgia and England where he scored the first goal in a 2-2 draw with the hosts.
His consistent performances with the national group have earned him a call-up by Billy Stark and fingers are crossed that it will lead to an appearance in Holland later this week.
“We’re delighted for Mark and it has come as no surprise,” manager Greg Abbott said. “We heard good things from Ricky [Sbragia] and his staff and obviously he got his goals.
“This will be a fantastic experience for him and we have no doubt that he will go and do himself and the club proud.”
“I’m absolutely over the moon,” Beck said as he left to join up with his new team mates. “It came as a bit of a shock but it goes without saying that I’m really looking forward to it. It’s another step up for me from U19 level but I’m hoping that the games I’ve had in League One with Carlisle will put me in a good position.
“I just want to get there and hopefully play a part.”
