Liam Noble on the Bristol City game
Midfielder Liam Noble spoke to us following the home defeat to Bristol City.
"We're obviously disappointed with the result," he said. "I think the lads gave it their all and we probably lost to the better team on the day. They took their chances so we need to put it to bed and make sure we're ready to go again on Saturday.
"We were buzzing in the dressing room at half time because we felt we could go on and win the game. It isn't an excuse, but the wind made it very difficult for us in the second half. We tried not to get too deep, but we did in the end. The lad who scored the hat-trick was a very good player."
"Our first goal was a good set-piece," he continued. "Sean [O'Hanlon] got on the end of it very well. We couldn't quite push on and take our chances to get the second goal which probably would have put the game to bed."
"The goals at the start of the second half made it hard for us," he admitted. "I think you can take one but when they score two so quickly it knocks your confidence. We managed to get it back to 3-2 and we were pushing for the equaliser to get the point. Unfortunately they broke away while we were doing that and the fourth goal killed us off."
"It was nice to get on the score sheet and get off the mark for the season but it doesn't mean anything now," he said. "Whenever I score I'd like us to get the three points so although it is nice on a personal level it doesn't feel as good as it should."
"I think they deserved the win because they took their chances," he told us. "We showed on Tuesday night that we're capable of coming back and winning after we'd lost so hopefully we can do that again on Saturday. Gillingham will be a good team and there's a lot of competition for places across the team now. Whoever is playing, we'll all be looking to get the three points.
"The reaction from the fans at the end of the game does help. Even though we lost, they applauded us off the pitch. That shows that they know that we tried to play our football and kept going right until the final whistle. We didn't take our chances, and there were a couple of individual mistakes, but we need to move on now.
"Kav is always looking to bring players in if they're going to help the squad and Prince [Buaben] will do that. He obviously plays in my position so I'll be doing everything I can to keep the shirt."
