Eden Mencap FC tells Cumberland FA how they are helping
Eden Mencap FC, established in 2011, was one of Cumberland’s first Disability Charter Standard Football Club, offering regular football for disabled adults aged 16 and over, from weekly sessions to monthly fixtures in the Carlisle United Ability Counts League.
Since first stepping out on the football pitch, Eden Mencap FC have gone on to develop 2 adult female and 2 adult male teams; training regularly at Penrith Leisure Centre at an FA Mars Just Play Centre.
Last season, Eden Mencap FC were successful in gaining a Football Foundation Grow the Game bid, to help support the growth and development of new disabled teams within their Club.
Club Chair, Kirsty McGrath said: "When we received the news our application was successful for a Grow the Game bid, we were thrilled. We decided to put the money towards supporting our Under 16 developments, offering a sound structure for disabled children aged 8-16 to play regularly in a football club environment, with qualified coaches, carers and volunteers."
