Clarets to travel north for friendly
Carlisle United are delighted to announce that we will play host to our old rivals Burnley in a pre-season friendly to be held at Brunton Park on Saturday 20 July, kick off 3pm.The Clarets finished just seven points shy of the Championship play-off zone this time round and manager Sean Dyche has already spoken about his desire to keep his squad together and to strengthen, where possible, ahead of the next campaign.
These sides last met in a League Cup fixture at Turf Moor in August 2005 where the home team ran out as 2-1 winners courtesy of Mike Duff and a last minute strike from Ade Akinbiyi. Adam Murray grabbed the Carlisle consolation.
Our last meeting at Brunton Park was a 2-1 League Two victory for the Cumbrians way back in February 1998. Ian Stevens and Allan Smart scored for United with Andy Cooke bagging a second half goal for the visitors.
Manager Greg Abbott said: "Burnley are a fantastic side and this is a good one for us.
"It's one the fans will enjoy and, in terms of preparation, we couldn't ask for better opposition. It's one we will be able to really get our teeth in to."
Full match details will be released in due course.
