Who we play and when this season
The fixture list for the 2013/14 season is now in circulation and we can confirm that United will kick things off with a home game against Leyton Orient on Saturday 3 August.
Our Capital One Cup first round home tie against Blackburn Rovers follows very quickly the following week with the first away game of the campaign the trip across the Pennines to face League One new boys Bradford City on Saturday 10 August.
“It’s a great way for us to kick the season off,” manager Greg Abbott said.
“We now have two home games in quick succession and that gives us a chance to build up a bit of momentum. The lads are back in work next Wednesday and the focus from day one will be on what we have to do once the season kicks off in August.
“There’s always a huge amount of interest when the fixture list comes out but the fact of the matter is that we have to play 46 league games. Our aim is to be consistent and to make sure we pick up the results we need to really push things on.
"Having said that, you can look at back-to-back home games against Port Vale and Sheffield United in September, Preston on Boxing Day and the trip to Wolves on the final day of the season and you can't help but start to look forward to it all.
"This is when minds really start to focus in and I think we all just want to get on with it now."
Other dates of interest include a home game against Walsall and an away game against Peterborough over the Easter weekend in April - the visit of Wolves to Brunton Park on Saturday 12 October and a New Year's Day meeting against Crewe at Gresty Road.
