League moves to bigger facility
The Carlisle United Ability Counts League has set a new summer fixture programme - and has announced a move to larger facility into the bargain.
Now in its second season, the League welcomes disability teams from across Cumbria to its monthly fixture programme. For the past year and half, the League has been well accommodated at Newton Rigg in Penrith seeing around 40 disabled adults take part in games.
Over the past season, the League has seen growth in both its male and female divisions; and with disability football becoming increasingly popular in the County, a change was needed.
After much consultation with committee members and key stakeholders, the decision to move to a larger facility was seen as the way forward. Along with this a change of when the League games were played was also discussed. Ability Counts Teams and players voted towards the changes for a summer League as opposed to playing during the winter months.
The League and its members are pleased to announce the new facility will be Penrith Leisure Centre and the games will be played across two outdoor Astroturf pitches. The League will run from March through to October welcoming adult male and female disability teams, no matter what ability.
The remaining League dates are:
Tuesday 11 June 2013
Tuesday 9 July 2013
Tuesday 13 August 2013
Tuesday 10 September 2013
Tuesday 8 October 2013
Jess Lawson, Disability Football Development Officer said: "Fixtures will run from 6pm until 8pm, and games are refereed by qualified Cumberland FA Referees.
"We are very excited to host our League at this new facility with North County Leisure (NCL), and throughout the summer months. We look forward to welcoming our teams into the summer programme, and hope it raises awareness with new organisations and disability groups of the fantastic work that is going on with disability football."
