David Amoo on his first appearance
New signing David Amoo made his first appearance for the Blues in the pre-season friendly opener against Penrith on Friday night and we caught up with him at full time to get his reaction to the game.
“It was good to get a run-out and to be involved,” he said. “I enjoyed it because playing games is what it’s all about.
“When you get on the pitch it’s a good test for the lungs and you can see that you still need to get your sharpness back at this stage of the summer. I do like to run with the ball but it was a slow pitch, so that side of it was difficult.
“I don’t think that matters too much at the moment. It’s good to get the chance to work on the more technical stuff as the weeks go by. That will start to come together as we get more games and as the match fitness builds up.”
“The other enjoyable part is getting to know the players and the way they do things,” he continued. “The lads have been great with me and it’s been a good week. The training has been tough but I think that’s helping to bring us all together as a group.
“I’ll admit completely that I’m not a fan of the longer running exercises,” he said. “I think everyone knows I like the speed stuff but the rest of it is not my favourite at all.
“It’s important, though, and it’s something you have to do because we all need to be as fit as we can be.”
“These games this month are important for all of us,” he explained. “Even with the 45 minutes I had tonight I could feel that my touch was starting to come back.
“There were a lot of Carlisle fans here and they had some nice things to say. I just wish I could have scored a goal for them. I’m getting more time at Kendal so hopefully things will move on again from there.
“The countdown has started now that we’ve played this game. I’m just really looking forward to the start of the season.”
