Sir Bobby Robson National Football Day
Cumberland FA is proud to be supporting Sir Bobby Robson National Football Day – a celebration of grassroots football and the 400,000 volunteers without whom we wouldn’t have a national game.
On Saturday 10 August at Pirelli Football Club in Carlisle, Adult Disability Teams from across the county will be coming together to celebrate Sir Bobby Robson National Football Day. Pirelli Football Club is opening its doors to the local community and inviting people along to take part and support their local club.
Pirelli FC is the first Mainstream Charter Standard Club in the county to obtain a link with an Adult Disability Club. Next month Carlisle Rovers Ability Counts FC will make the transition and begin to play under the Pirelli FC banner.
The FA has supported and developed football over the last 150 years to be the most popular team sport in England, played regularly by many millions as well as being supported across the country by the incredible efforts of 400,000 dedicated volunteers. The FA has created ‘Sir Bobby Robson National Football Day’ as an annual celebration for all within grassroots football to take part in and enjoy.
Sir Bobby Robson was one of football’s good guys who made a huge contribution to football communities across the country. As such The FA is delighted Sir Bobby Robson National Football Day will carry Sir Bobby’s name, in turn raising awareness of the work of his cancer charity - The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation.
Sir Bobby Robson National Football Day will take place on Saturday 10th August 2013 to coincide with the start of the new football season. On this date Pirelli FC and many more Ability Counts Teams will take part in a whole game celebration that includes 150 community football events taking place across the country – giving local communities the opportunity to get involved with their local club or league.
Disability Football Development Officer, Jess Lawson said, ‘What better way to celebrate not only the grassroots game nationally; but the hard work and commitment that’s gone into disability football on a local level. We look forward to welcoming disability squads from right across the county, enjoying a day of football on the doorstep of Pirelli FC.’
