INTERVIEW: Can't wait to get started

O'Hanlon on his move to Cumbria

We caught up with defender Sean O’Hanlon to get his reaction to the short-term deal which keeps him at Brunton Park until the end of the season.

“I’ve been here for a few weeks now and I’ve got to know the lads quite well,” he said. “I’m just looking forward to getting started properly to be honest.

“It’s probably been easier to make the decision, having been here for a while, because I feel comfortable with the players and the surroundings. I’ve been made to feel very welcome and I think this is going to be a good move for me.”

“It all came about when the gaffer gave me a call and asked if I fancied coming along to train with the squad,” he explained. “I enjoyed myself and we then had the game with Rangers, which he wanted me to play in, so we decided that I would stay a bit longer.

“Training is one thing but I think most managers like to see how you cope with a game. The Rangers friendly gave him an opportunity to have a better look at me, so it came at a good time.”

“I’m just really happy to be here now,” he added. “I now want to play as much football as I can and hopefully, if that happens, it could lead to a new contract which will take me into next year.

“It seems to be a good place to be. We had a couple of back-to-back home wins when I was here before Christmas and the morale of the players is really good. There’s a real belief that they can climb the table and I want to try and help with that.”

“I’ve just turned 30 at the start of this year so I think it’s fair to say I bring a bit of experience with me,” he said. “I like to think I can dominate in the air and I set myself the target of chipping in with a few goals from set-pieces.

“The game on Sunday is a good one because I’ve never played against Coventry in a competitive fixture before. I’ve been out of the game for a few months now and, if I’m selected, it’s one for me to really look forward to. I just can’t wait to get started.”
