Matt Robson on the Boro game
Left back Matt Robson spoke to us about the 2-1 victory over Stevenage at the post-match press conference on Saturday evening.
“That was a battle for us in the end,” he said. “It’s fantastic that we’ve come off the field with another win and it shows that the hard work we’ve been doing over the past couple of months is starting to pay dividends. We’re starting to find a bit of form now.
“Training was very lively and sharp last week. We’ve enjoyed and it we took that into the game from the off. The man advantage can be difficult but we were unfortunate not to get a third goal. We’ll take the win as it came though.”
“I don’t think the ref had any choice with the sending off,” he added. “They were quite lucky when [Filipe] Morais lashed out at Andy Welsh as well because Tranmere had a man sent off for less than that last week. It didn’t make too much difference because we were in control.
“The first goal happened so quickly that I wasn’t sure if it had hit Rory [Loy] or come off one of their players. He was in an offside position but it must have come off the defender and he was allowed to play on. It was a fantastic header and it was the positive start we wanted.”
“Stevenage are a big, physical side and you know what you’re going to get,” he said. “They’ll keep coming at you but I thought we looked solid. I really don’t mind that I’ve had to slot back in at left back because if there’s a job to be done then I’ll do it.
“The gaffer knows I’ll put a good shift in wherever I play and it’s unfortunate that the wee man has picked up an injury. We were playing well together but it’s a position I enjoy. It’s good to have a winger like Andy Welsh in front of you because he just wants to get the ball and get on with it. I am disappointed that I might not get as many goals as I have been but I’ll be happy as long as I’m playing.”
“We always had the belief that we’d turn the form round,” he insisted. “We were missing that little bit of luck that you need, but that has started to come back for us. Home form is vital in this league because it brings the belief back from the fans. We’re not going to get above ourselves but we have two big games coming up where we firmly believe we can take six points. That can’t be a bad thing.”
