INTERVIEW: Tend to be decent battles

Manager ahead of the weekend game

United manager Greg Abbott gave us his thoughts ahead of the home game against MK Dons on Saturday.

“We’ve done a bit of homework on Jordan [Mustoe] and it’s good that we’ve got him in,” he said. “Everyone speaks very highly of him and hopefully he’ll settle in and work well with us.

“He’s a good character and he has trained really well so he’s the right type. We’re all looking forward to seeing if he can develop his career from here.”

“It’s a good game for him to come in for because we tend to have decent battles with MK Dons,” he added. “I do remember being 3-0 up in one of them and we ended up back at 3-3 before we eventually won it, so if both teams are on their game anything can happen.

“I really enjoy Karl [Robsinon] and his company but they’re coming to a stage of the season where they need to be picking up points and going on a run for their own reasons. They’ll come here with a fierce determination to get something so we’ll have to guard against the attacking style of play they often use.

“A draw doesn’t really do anything for either team so it could be one where everyone is going for it. We want to continue our good home run and the best way to do that is by taking all three points. I want the next week with the Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday games to be a good one for us. Getting a result against MK Dons will be a big step towards making that happen.

“They are probably the best out-and-out footballing side in our division when they are on their game. Things haven’t quite gone their way recently and that’s something we have to try and take advantage of.

“We almost have that full squad we’ve been talking about and, as we have said, when we’re in that situation we’re not a bad side. We’ve got players who give us real options and it’ll be up to us to pick the right combination to get the end result we want.

“We’re looking healthy up front because we’ve got Rory [Loy] on a little run as well. I hope he scores again tomorrow – not for me, but for him. He has been through hell this last year and he has earned this run of form and goals. I’m absolutely delighted for him.”

“Like I say, it’s a tough game but it’s one that tends to throw up a fair share of excitement,” he concluded. “Our fans have had plenty to smile about here recently so we’re going out there to give them more of the same.”
