Meppen-Walter commits to Cumbrians
Former-Manchester City youth prospect Courtney Meppen-Walter has today signed a two-and-a-half year deal which keeps him at Brunton Park until the summer of 2016.
Central defender Meppen-Walter, 19, teamed up with the Cumbrians for a two-week trial period at the beginning of November and made his impressive first team debut in the 3-2 FA Cup victory over Brentford last weekend.
Manager Graham Kavanagh said: "We made Courtney what we felt was a very good offer and I'm pleased to say we have been able to sit down and get it all finalised.
"I believe there was interest from one or two other areas but I think he has appreciated the way we have treated him and the chance he has been given.
"He was thrown in at the deep end a little bit last weekend and I think we've seen from that game, and from the way he has worked with us since he joined us, that there is a very good player there.
"This deal gives him the chance to settle down, to learn and to move on. We don't want to put too much pressure on him but he is definitely heading in the right direction at the moment. He's here with us now and we think that will continue to improve and develop as we go on from here."
This deal remains subject to the filing and completion of all paperwork on Monday.
