COMMUNITY: National Football Day

Football festival a success

This weekend, Cumberland FA in partnership with Pirelli Football Club hosted the very first Sir Bobby Robson National Football Day.

Over 50 ability counts players aged 16+ joined together with teams from across the County and further afield, to play in a friendly 5 a side football festival. Pirelli FC, for the first time, opened their doors to Adult Pan-Disability Teams from Carlisle, West Cumbria, Kendal, Penrith and Sunderland to play on this special day.

The Sir Bobby Robson National Football Day marks a celebration of the grassroots game and the 400,000 volunteers who support it. On the day, 150 events took place across the Country as part of The FA’s 150th Anniversary celebrations, providing a showcase of The FA’s work at grassroots level and giving the nation the opportunity to get involved with the sport.

Cumberland FA and Pirelli FC would like to say a big ‘Thank You’ to all involved on the day; the players, coaches, volunteers and staff who all made the day possible; and we look forward to holding more disability football events in the future.

Disability Football Development Officer, Jess Lawson said: “What better way to celebrate National Football Day with the coming together of local disability teams, all enjoying what has been a fantastic day. Disability Football has became increasingly popular over the past 18 months here in Cumberland and showcasing it here today at Pirelli FC has been brilliant.”

Alongside the Pan-Disability Football event; The FA Tesco Skills Team hosted a ‘turn up and play’ session with over 30 youngsters aged 5-11 enjoying the activities on offer.

In addition to our National Football Day celebrations, we have one pair of FIFA World Cup Qualifier England v Moldova tickets to give away.  Sharing or Re-tweeting our National Football Day Posts last week on Facebook or Twitter instantly entered you into the draw! Players, parents, coaches and volunteers were also given the opportunity to enter on the day. The draw was made today; and the winner is ... Sandra Dalgleish. Congratulations!!
