Fixtures announced for the next fortnight
United’s youth set-up will close the season off with two friendly fixtures over the next fortnight, starting this Saturday with an 11.30am kick off at Creighton against a young side from Perth Academy in Australia.
“We’re looking to use Saturday as a game for our new intake,” coach Eric Kinder explained. “I won’t be using any of my current first year players, they’ll stay at Brunton Park to help with the Colchester game, so the focus will very much be on the lads who are coming in to start with us next season.
“It’ll be nice to play against a side from Australia because it’ll be interesting to see how the sides compare. It’s a game which came from a contact I have down at Burnley because they had to pull out of the game they were due to play with them. We’re looking forward to it.”
“The following week we will round the season off in the usual way,” he added. “Hopefully I will have all of next season’s sixteen available to play against the Cumberland U18 side.
“That is a very young group, we won’t have many second years at all, but I’m really happy with how it’s looking for us. If they can cope with the pace of youth football next year, and I think they will, then it will be really exciting for us as we look ahead to the season to follow that.”
And on the latest work experience package for keeper Lewis Brass, he said: “Lewis has joined Celtic Nation for a few weeks and it will be a good experience for him.
“He played for them in their 3-1 win over Team Northumberland on Monday night and he’ll be involved in their next two fixtures as well.
“We’re really pleased that we’ve been able to help one of our local sides out like this because it works both ways. It can only be of benefit to Lewis and we’re sure that he’ll do well.”
