Manager ahead of the Sheffield United game
United manager Greg Abbott spoke to us ahead of the Easter Sunday training session about the trip to Brammall Lane on Monday.
“We would expect Sheffield United to come out and really go at us,” he said. “They’re right up at the top end of things and they’ll be favourites to win.
“But, you’ve seen our lads. They have a habit of digging out good performances and results and there’s nothing for us to be frightened of.
“We’ll have a good number of fans there and we should all go to enjoy it. If we work hard, as we have been doing, we might just find we are causing them a few problems as well.”
“We’ve shown a fair bit of resolve and character over the last few games and you need that at this stage of the season,” he added. “It hasn’t been the prettiest to watch but at the moment it’s about results and points.
“Once we are where we want to be with that we can then take a look at where we are and where we want to go. It has been tough for everybody but we think we’re ready to come out of the other side stronger and ready to go again.
“The younger players who are involved will learn a little bit more from a game like this. It’s a big ground with a big atmosphere and we all have to deal with that. They will be in a much more confident mood following their result against Tranmere on Friday and they will have their targets set on one of the top two places.
“They’ve had a couple of blips along the way as well, because that’s what you get in League One, and we’ll be going there to hopefully give them another one.
“We have some nice selection problems with an almost full squad available, and that’s great for us to see. It’s down to me now to pick the right mix to go and do a job against what is a very good side.
“The lads are up for it and I’m sure the fans feel the same way, so fingers crossed it will be a good way to round off the weekend for everybody.”
