Welsh to move on
Carlisle United Football Club can confirm that winger Andy Welsh will not be offered a new contract on completion of his current two-year stay at the club. The wide man spoke with the manager ahead of the weekend about his contract situation where it was confirmed that the player would be allowed to move on.
"Andy has been fantastic to work with," Abbott said. "It has been frustrating for him because he hasn't got as much football as he would have wanted. He has rarely complained and he has been a true professional for the young lads to look up to.
"He's a good player and we wish him every success as he moves on after this weekend."
Welsh confirmed in a tweet to his followers on Saturday that his stay at Brunton Park had been a frustrating one.
"Last day at #cufc today," he tweeted. "A frustrating two years but would like to say good luck to the club and thanks to the fans for their support. Made some good friends on/off field so will say my goodbyes #timetomoveon."
Welsh, 29, joined United from Yeovil in the summer of 2011 and has made 37 appearances for the Blues.
