Danny Livesey spoke to us about his goal
Defender Danny Livesey spoke to us moments after coming out of the doctor’s office at Coventry City on Saturday.
He said: “I’ve had a nice little three stitches but it’s an occupational hazard when you play as a centre half.
“However, when you’ve scored the winning goal it’s all worth it. I haven’t managed to do that for a long, long while so it’s nice to do it again.”
Speaking about the game overall, he said: “I don’t think we were at our best when we had the ball at all. But we defended well all over the pitch and we are becoming very hard to beat. That has been lacking in our play for a while and you’ve always got a chance when it’s like that.
“We watched what had happened with them getting a new manager during the week and you have to be aware of that. It’s a fresh start for the players here and you could see that with the way they ran around and challenged for everything for the first ten or fifteen minutes. All you can do is see that off and start to play your own game.”
“I thought we let them back into it after we’d scored our penalty,” he told us. “We kept going though and I thought we dominated the second half. I enjoy the partnership I’ve got with Peter Murphy ... even though it’s getting slower and slower as the years go by. We’ve got an understanding and it would be nice to put a little run of games together with him.”
“Like I say, it’s great to score,” he said. “It was a corner so I was always going to make a gamble, and we do work hard on set pieces. If JP [McGovern] puts the right ball in then you have to do what you can to get on the end of it.
“I think I’ll dedicate this one to my twins, Isobel and Ty, because I haven’t had the chance to do that. It’s a winning goal as well so that’s nice for them.”
"It's the big game to look forward to on Wednesday now," he concluded. "It goes without saying that we're all looking forward to that one and I'm sure every player will want to be involved.
"We're going to have a big crowd and hopefully we'll give a good account of ourselves."
