Greg Abbott on the Spurs game
United manager Greg Abbott spoke to us about the Spurs game on Wednesday morning as he completed his final round of preparations ahead of the big game.He said: "I think it's fair to say we go into this one as the underdogs.
"We have no idea what team they will put out but you just have to look at their squad list and see that it is quality from top to bottom. Even if a few of their fringe players get a game we are still going to be up against it, and it's a night where everything will need to go our way if we're going to get something.
"It's a game for us all to enjoy with what will be a good atmosphere against one of the sides who are genuinely right up there in terms of what they are trying to do at the top level. Last week they were playing Lazio and this week it's Carlisle United, so that's a reward for our fans in many ways.
"The players all want to be involved and you would want to see that. It could be the case that the long journey and the fact that they won't see the facilities they are used to could work in our favour, or it could work against us. They'll enjoy the pitch, that is a certainty, because they'll see that it's as good as their own once they get on it. It all comes down to whether we get some big slices of luck as to how it will go for us.
"Like I say, we want to go out there and win it if we possibly can but it's definitely a game and an experience to enjoy. You look at our younger players and the fact they could be on the pitch with some of the biggest names in the country and they have to take everything they can from that.
"We'll do things the same way, we'll go out there to stay tight and close and we'll see what that brings for us."
