The manager ahead of tonight
United manager Greg Abbott spoke to us ahead of the visit of Oldham Athletic on Tuesday night. He said: "This will be a tough one because Oldham have been on a good run recently.
“They’ll come here in a confident mood and we’ll have to be ready for them. They’ve been playing some decent football and it’s one of those where they always give us a good game.
“Paul [Dickov] will be pleased because they had a difficult start to the season and they’ve turned that round. Their run this month has taken them up the table and they’ll want that to continue.
“For us, we want to see the same levels of determination and energy as we got on Saturday. We still look at that one and wonder how we came away with nothing because the quality of the chances we created was unbelievable.
“On any other day we’d have put at least a couple of those away and if we continue to get into the right areas then we know it will come for us.
“The positives from our last few games have been the way we have played and the way we have battled. We have produced some really good football at times and we want to keep that going. The key to the game is scoring goals, we all know that, but we’d be more worried if we weren’t doing the right things.
“The home results are obviously important to us because we want to get it right in front of our own fans. We have had runs in the past where we have gone unbeaten at Brunton Park and we want to do that again. The players approach the game in the same way whether it’s home or away and the results will come for us.
“The lads were fine in training on Monday. They’re like everyone else – very disappointed at the result on Saturday but they know they played well. They dominated it for long periods and if we get that again tonight we’ll be giving Oldham a real test.”
